>Using BlogMap you can geo-code your blog, browse already geo-coded blogs and search for blogs. Once geo-coded, you can get your own BlogMap location using a simple url!

Check it.

Unlike Ye Olde GeoURL or Ye Olde Localfeeds, it doesn’t depend on any page metadata, you just tell it where you live and point it at your feed It is interesting that they choose to index feeds instead of sites. Maybe they are working on something that will fill the Localfeeds void?

Of course, I would like for the Localfeeds void to be filled by none other than, well… **Localfeeds**. But, is it happening?

Yes. I have spent the last two months alternately focusing on and avoiding (mostly the latter) a lot of lower-level details, because that’s where I feel it is neccesary to *do it right*– the Localfeeds idea is pretty damned simple, but my code didn’t scale very well.

But, over the last week I’ve had a enough “aha!” moments learning about [Ruby][], [Rails][], and [MVC][] that the cobwebs are out of my skull and I’m actually excited to get back to work.

  1. That’s interesting. I submitted my site, but I’m not that impressed. It shows me as being in part of Harrisburg, but I’d rather have the more specific lat/long tags to go by. And having the map on your site doesn’t really do anything. I’m still waiting for the reawakening of LocalFeeds.

  2. Ditto!

  3. I’d have to agree. The feature I miss most is being able to browse blogs based on distance from my location.

  4. Well thats a concidence. A day after I posted the above, I find out that GeoURL is back.

Actually, blogmap supports the localfeeds by distance; check this out: http://www.csthota.com/blog/PermaLink.aspx/bda173ad-bde4-4189-ad08-c7f60eedc070

  5. What Localfeeds did was actually gather news items from all the sites it new about in a particular area, although the blogroll thing on blogmap that you link to is pretty cool.
